Tengrinews.kz – New details have emerged about the robbery at the Louvre in Paris. The thieves who stole jewelry from the Louvre used a construction lift basket to reach the window of the storage room and smashed the glass. To avoid suspicion, they dressed in museum staff uniforms, according to France’s Ministry of the Interior, citing French radio RFI.
According to preliminary investigation materials, the robbery took place in the morning, right after the museum opened.
As Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez stated, there were three or four perpetrators. They arrived on scooters and used a truck-mounted construction basket to reach the Apollo Gallery, where they broke into two display cases.
Footage of the robbery was shown by the French TV channel BFMTV. In the video, a man posing as a museum employee opens a display case in the Apollo Gallery while visitors pay no attention.

According to Nuñez, the heist was carried out by a highly professional team. The minister suggested that the thieves might be foreign nationals and expressed hope that both the culprits and the stolen items would be found soon.
While fleeing, the robbers dropped one of the pieces of jewelry, which was found “on the outskirts of the Louvre.” Later in the day, AFP reported that a damaged crown belonging to Empress Eugénie had been found near the Paris museum.
This crown belonged to Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoleon III — a typical imperial crown adorned with 1,354 diamonds and 56 emeralds, according to a description on the Louvre’s website.
According to the French Ministry of Culture, the ninth stolen item — the empress’s crown — was indeed discarded by the thieves during their escape. Its condition is currently under evaluation, the ministry added.
An investigation has been launched into organized armed robbery and criminal conspiracy with the intent to commit theft. The case has been assigned to the Brigade for the Repression of Banditry (BRB), the Paris prosecutor’s office reported.
The robbery occurred on Sunday morning, October 19, during the Louvre’s opening hours. According to Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez, the stolen jewels are of “inestimable value.”
