Who was caught on camera in Ile-Alatau?
The footage shows various park residents walking along the same path and getting caught on a single camera:
- Three Tien Shan brown bears at once
- A Turkestan lynx
- Marals (Caspian red deer) and Siberian roe deer
The park is home to 48 species of mammals, six of which are listed in Kazakhstan's Red Book of endangered species.
The cameras are placed in forests and mountains and record the animals in their natural environment. Scientists observe the animals remotely, without interfering with their behavior.
“These videos help track animal movement in the wild. This is an important part of scientific and conservation work aimed at preserving the country’s biodiversity,” noted the national park.
According to specialists, there are currently 79 Tien Shan brown bears living in Ile-Alatau National Park – all of which are included in the Red Book.
Previously, specialists in the “Ertis Ormany” reserve in the Pavlodar region discovered the nest of one of Kazakhstan’s rarest birds of prey — the imperial eagle.
