Tengrinews.kz - In 2024, Kazakhstan expanded its international air connections by launching new routes to cities like Irkutsk and Mumbai. In the coming years, routes to Tokyo and New York are planned.
New routes opened in 2024
In response to an official inquiry, the Civil Aviation Committee (CAA) reported that the following international routes were opened this year:
- FlyArystan launched flights on the Almaty – Mumbai route;
- China Southern Airlines, a Chinese airline, opened flights on the Almaty – Beijing route;
- One of Southeast Asia's largest low-cost carriers, Malaysian airline AirAsia X, began regular direct flights on the Kuala Lumpur – Almaty route;
- The airline Yakutia opened direct flights on the new Almaty – Irkutsk route;
- Egyptian airline Air Cairo launched regular direct flights on the Sharm El Sheikh – Aktobe and Almaty – El Alamein routes;
- Vietnamese airline Vietjet Air started regular direct passenger flights on the Phu Quoc – Astana route;
- Air Astana launched direct flights on routes including Astana – Seoul, Shymkent – Jeddah, Astana – Phuket, Atyrau – Dubai, Atyrau – Phu Quoc, Almaty – Medina, and Abu Dhabi – Astana;
- SCAT Airlines resumed flights on the Astana – Prague route.
Which routes will be launched soon
CAA informed us about plans to open routes to Berlin and Munich (Germany).
"In the medium term, there are plans to launch flights to Budapest, Riga, Vienna, and Munich. Currently, the possibility of opening flights to Berlin is being explored," the committee said in an official response to our inquiry.
Many Kazakhstanis are still awaiting direct flights to the United States and Japan. We found out new details regarding these routes.
"In the medium term, flights to Tokyo and New York are planned for 2025 and 2026," CAA reported.
Additionally, the committee mentioned plans to open routes to Singapore and Morocco.
It was previously reported that Air Astana is considering launching regular passenger flights to Tokyo, tentatively starting in the spring of 2026.
