Tengrinews.kz - Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has ordered the urgent creation of an international air hub in Kazakhstan.
"Another urgent task is the creation of an international air hub in our country. We need to take the most decisive measures to transform our major airports into international competitive hubs.
We need to create a holistic ecosystem that includes cargo and passenger terminals, logistics centers and modern services. It is necessary to simplify all cargo handling procedures and ensure affordable jet fuel. The latter point is extremely important because jet fuel at our airports, in particular, at the capital's airport, is too expensive," Tokayev said at an extended government meeting.
He instructed the antimonopoly agency, together with the government, to complete this task in the first half of the year.
"Currently, the global air cargo market is estimated at $140 billion. These are huge opportunities, but not a single Kazakhstani airline is yet fully involved in this process," the President noted.
According to him, the development of domestic air routes should be in the focus of close attention, especially with regard to the issue of infrastructure at the main tourist sites.
"The runways of the resort areas of Balkhash and Alakol have already been modernized. The potential of the resort areas of Katon-Karagay, Zaisan and Kendirli needs to be unlocked. In the resort areas, it is necessary to build air terminal complexes and airports with high-quality road infrastructure. Small aircraft should be purchased at the expense of the Industrial Development Fund," the President instructed.
Tokayev especially noted that when implementing tourism projects, it is important not to disturb the ecological balance and avoid damage to nature.
