Tengrinews.kz - The akim of Astana Zhenis Kassymbek spoke about the consequences of the hurricane wind that hit the city on November 6.
At a meeting between the akim and residents of the Baikonur district, Kassymbek was asked whether the akim’s office plans to change building codes so that infrastructure facilities do not fly around the city in bad weather.
"You see that the weather is unusual. And today even a local emergency has been declared. This is due to the fact that the wind speed is quite high. In fact, today is stormy weather. Therefore, in such a situation, sometimes such things happen. In general, the first stormy day went well yesterday. There are no major, large excesses. There were several problematic moments, including the roof of one of the schools was partially damaged. There were problems at two bus stops. The windage is high in Astana, the wind was very strong. Naturally, an order has been given," Zhenis Kassymbek answered.
He added that the capital is preparing for winter in advance: a total inspection of all construction sites, fences, bus stops, etc. has been carried out.
"But, unfortunately, such things happen from time to time. Nothing critical happened. I think that today or tomorrow everything will be restored. But the existing GOSTs and requirements are enough to build safely. If something extraordinary happened somewhere, we will sort it out. If construction companies and other companies that are engaged in these objects violated something, they will be punished," promised Kassymbek.
The akim also mentioned a case when the wind tore off the cladding from one of the houses, which fell on a car and damaged it. According to the official, the issue with the owner of the car has already been resolved. They promise to punish the construction company.
As for the bus stops and the school, which were also damaged by the hurricane wind, they plan to fix everything within a week.
On November 6, a hurricane wind hit Astana, which demolished entire structures, fell trees and lamp posts, damaged cars and playgrounds, and tore off the cladding from houses. Social networks are filled with photos and videos of the aftermath of the raging elements. More details here.
