Tengrinews.kz - President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held talks with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico in Astana, citing the Akorda press service.
Tokayev emphasized that Slovakia is an important and reliable partner of Kazakhstan in Europe and one of the most active and dynamically developing EU member states.
“Many of these achievements reflect your strong leadership at the helm of your government. Slovakia’s active stance in regional and international affairs shows your commitment to constructive global engagement. I greatly value our strengthening political dialogue, the development of economic cooperation, humanitarian exchanges, and effective multilateral collaboration,” President Tokayev said during the meeting at Akorda.
He also noted that the relationship between Astana and Bratislava is based on a solid legal framework encompassing key areas of cooperation. Tokayev reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s intention to continue working closely with Slovakia across the full spectrum of bilateral and multilateral agendas.
According to Tokayev, priority should be given to economic partnership. Last year, trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $140 million. More than 30 Slovak companies and 22 joint ventures operate in Kazakhstan across various sectors.
The President also highlighted the importance of further diversifying the structure of cooperation. He pointed out new opportunities in energy, industrial production, agriculture, logistics, digitalization, critical raw materials, education, and tourism.

Robert Fico thanked the President for the warm welcome extended to him and the Slovak delegation on Kazakh soil.
“From the bottom of my heart, I thank Kazakhstan for its invaluable contribution to the liberation of Slovakia in 1944–1945. About one million soldiers from your country fought in the ranks of the Soviet Army. Around 60,000 Soviet soldiers gave their lives for Slovakia’s liberation. We are deeply grateful for what was done for our country during those difficult times. Your Excellency, we follow your efforts to develop the country and your ambitious vision for building a new Just and Prosperous Kazakhstan with great respect. I constantly urge my colleagues in the European Union not to focus solely on internal EU matters but to take a broader view of the world, learn from the experiences and achievements of other nations. We should strengthen cooperation and engage more actively with partners across the globe,” the Slovak Prime Minister stated.
During the extended meeting between the two countries’ delegations, both sides confirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening the partnership and implementing new initiatives aimed at developing Kazakh-Slovak relations.
