Tengrinews.kz - Minister of Ecology Yerlan Nyssanbayev announced that saiga meat will soon be available in retail stores across Kazakhstan.
According to the minister, the exact size of the saiga population will be determined after field research. Nyssanbayev also outlined plans for the processing and sale of saiga meat, noting that 13 enterprises are prepared to receive up to 3,700 saigas daily.
"Taking into account the difficult experience of 2023, we approached this matter very seriously. We thoroughly assessed meat processing plants to verify their readiness. If we proceed with population control, it will be exclusively through certified meat plants, where each carcass will undergo sanitary and veterinary procedures to ensure public safety," Nyssanbayev said at a Senate meeting.
He added that saiga meat will be sold through retail channels.
"There is business interest in building new storage and processing facilities. These plants are located in regions where saigas are commonly found — including West Kazakhstan, Atyrau, Aktobe, Akmola, Kostanay, Karaganda, and Pavlodar regions," the minister noted.
On June 2, Zhanibek Nupirov, Deputy Akim of the Ulytau region, reported 16,800 saiga deaths, warning that the situation poses a risk of disease outbreaks in the area.
