Tengrinews.kz - A woman has been sentenced to 16 years in prison in Astana over a major drug shipment sent from the United States to Kazakhstan, according to the Main Transport Prosecutor's Office.
According to investigators, the Kazakh national received international postal parcels from the US containing drugs disguised as household goods.
"Customs officers at the Kazpost customs control zone in Astana seized 1.2 kilograms of hashish oil. Additionally, during a search of the suspect's residence in Almaty, 4.38 grams of packaged mephedrone were discovered," the statement said.
The Specialized Interdistrict Criminal Court of Astana found the woman guilty of drug trafficking and smuggling of narcotic and psychotropic substances on a large scale.
The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
