Tengrinews.kz - A new video has surfaced on social media showing the moment a man set himself on fire at Almaty Airport.

The footage, published by the director of the Nur Ai & Co travel agency where the incident occurred, shows the man talking on the phone while arguing with police officers. He then pours a flammable liquid on himself, allows the cashier to leave the office, and continues the argument with officers standing at the door. According to the video’s timestamp, the self-immolation happened about six minutes after the confrontation began.

“He came in, asked for a phone, started making a call, and said he had missed his flight. Then he poured gasoline on himself. Our agent asked to leave, and he let her go before setting himself on fire. Our brave employee Ksenia didn’t panic and acted quickly,” wrote Gulmira Sadvakassova, director of Nur Ai & Co, on Facebook.

She also noted that the man entered the ticket office already carrying the flammable liquid.

What happened

On Monday evening, the man set himself on fire in Terminal T-1 of Almaty Airport. Police officers together with airport security staff immediately took safety measures: they extinguished the flames and called an ambulance. Doctors transported the victim to a city hospital.

A criminal case has been opened, and investigative actions are underway.

Later, a video of the incident surfaced. In the footage received by our editorial office, a man wearing a baseball cap and jacket can be seen standing at the ticket counter. Then flames erupt, he runs out and falls to the floor. Bystanders extinguish the fire with fire extinguishers.
