Tengrinews.kz – Kazhydromet has issued a weather warning for residents of Astana, Almaty, and other cities.
“On June 17, 2025, unfavorable meteorological conditions are expected in the cities of Ust-Kamenogorsk, Almaty, and at night in Astana,” the statement said.
It is worth noting that on June 16, forecasters had already warned residents of Astana and Almaty about adverse weather conditions.
Unfavorable meteorological conditions are a combination of short-term weather factors (calm, light wind, fog, inversion) that contribute to the accumulation of harmful (polluting) substances in the lower layer of the atmosphere.
Inversion is a weather phenomenon where warm air sits above cold air, effectively “trapping” it. Normally, warmer air near the ground rises and carries pollutants upward. But during an inversion, the cold air remains stuck at the surface, along with exhaust, dust, and smoke. As a result, pollution accumulates at ground level—especially in cities.
