Tengrinews.kz – Kazhydromet has issued a weather warning for residents of Almaty and one other city.
“On June 19, 2025, unfavorable meteorological conditions are expected in the cities of Ust-Kamenogorsk and Almaty,” the statement says.
Unfavorable meteorological conditions are a combination of short-term weather factors (such as calm winds, light breeze, fog, and inversion) that contribute to the accumulation of harmful (polluting) substances in the lower layers of the atmosphere.
Inversion is a weather phenomenon where warm air traps cold air below it. Normally, warmer air near the ground rises and disperses pollution. But during an inversion, cold air becomes trapped at the surface, along with exhaust fumes, dust, and smoke. As a result, pollution builds up near the ground—especially in urban areas.
