Tengrinews.kz - Kazakhstan’s population has surpassed 20.3 million, according to updated figures from the Bureau of National Statistics.
As of July 1, 2025, the country’s population stood at 20,387,811. This marks an increase of more than 17,100 people since June 1, when the figure was 20,370,672.
Most populous regions
The regions with the largest populations are:
- Almaty – 2,319,893
- Turkestan Region – 2,150,228
- Almaty Region – 1,578,089
- Astana – 1,576,337
Regions with populations over one million also include:
- Shymkent – 1,277,743
- Zhambyl Region – 1,220,041
- Karaganda Region – 1,132,697
Least populated regions
At the same time, several regions remain the least populated:
- Ulytau Region – 220,266
- North Kazakhstan Region – 518,049
- Abai Region – 599,449
The majority of Kazakhstan’s residents continue to live in urban areas — 12,877,408 people, compared to 7,493,264 living in rural areas.
