Tengrinews.kz - Ahead of Capital City Day, Tengrinews.kz looked into how many people in Kazakhstan actually share the name Astana.
According to the Bureau of National Statistics, there are currently 24 people in the country with the name Astana: 17 men and 7 women.
That number hasn’t changed since last year. In the year Kazakhstan’s new capital was declared (1998), records show two boys were given the name Astana.

Most people with this name live in the capital itself — four in total. Three others live in Shymkent, the Mangystau region, and the Turkestan region.
The youngest people named Astana are under 15 years old, with six children in this group. Another five are aged 15–19, and two are between 20 and 24.

In the 25–29 age bracket, there are three people named Astana, while one person each is in the 30–34, 40–44, and 60–64 age groups. There are three people named Astana aged 50–54 and two who are over 65.

Other similar names are also found across Kazakhstan. Five people are registered with the name Astanai, and three men carry the name Astanali. The name Nurastana has been given to five boys and one girl.
Meanwhile, 41 people have been named after one of the capital’s most iconic landmarks, the Baiterek monument, and another 30 people use the Kazakh spelling Bäyterek.
