Tengrinews.kz - Starting June 25, Kazakh consumers will be able to return unverified smartphones for a refund, even if more than two weeks have passed since the purchase, the head of the Telecommunications Committee of the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry, Damir Seissembekov, said.
According to Seissembekov, amendments to the law on Protection of Consumer Rights are currently under consideration in the Mazhilis. The changes specifically address the issue of smartphones that have not been verified in the national mobile device database.
"If a smartphone has not passed verification, the buyer will be able to return it to the seller, regardless of the circumstances. As you know, we currently have a 14-day return window, but if the lack of verification is established, that alone will be sufficient grounds for a refund after June 25," he explained.
Seissembekov added that most electronics retailers are already aware of the upcoming change. However, if a customer does end up purchasing an unverified smartphone, it will still be possible to complete the verification process after the purchase.
"If this happens, we’re allowing both sellers and buyers to carry out the verification procedure in accordance with the established process," Seissembekov said.
