Tengrinews.kz – Around 1,500 Kazakhstani citizens are currently in Qatar, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alibek Bakaev reported.

In the corridors of the Mazhilis, journalists asked Bakaev whether any Kazakhstanis were among the victims of the recent explosions in Doha, the capital of Qatar.

“Indeed, we do have citizens there, but thank God, none of them are among the victims. No one has reached out to us. As of now, there are about 1,500 Kazakhstanis in Qatar,” said Bakaev.

He added that 516 people are registered with the consulate, and diplomats are in regular contact with them.

What happened

On September 9, Israel launched airstrikes on various locations in Doha. The target was residential areas where a Hamas leadership delegation had gathered to discuss the latest U.S. ceasefire proposal for the Gaza Strip. Qatar condemned the Israeli attack.

The Qatari authorities announced the formation of a legal team to prepare a formal legal response to the strike on a residential neighborhood. Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani stated that Israel's actions violate international law and undermine the Gaza peace talks initiated by the U.S.
