Monthly inflation in Kazakhstan
According to the National Statistics Bureau, the monthly consumer price index in December was 1.1% (in December it was 0.9%).
Over the month, the price level of food products increased by 1.4%, paid services – by 1.1%, non-food products – by 0.6%.
Inflation for the year in Kazakhstan
Inflation in Kazakhstan has accelerated, reaching 8.9% over the past year (compared to 8.6% in December 2024).
Prices for paid services increased by 13.8% (up from 13.3% in December 2024), non-food products by 8.4% (compared to 8.3% in December 2024), and food products by 5.8% (up from 5.5% in December 2024).
How prices have changed over the year: what has increased in price the most
Over the past year, utility service rates have significantly increased:
- Cold water by 43.2%
- Sewerage by 26.1%
- Heating by 23.1%
- Hot water by 21.3%
- Electricity by 18.9%
- Gas by 12%
- Waste disposal by 10.3%
Other services have also become more expensive:
- Recreation and tourism by 26%
- Communication services by 16.8%
- Healthcare by 12%
- Hairdressing services by 11.9%
- Car repairs by 11.4%
- Public catering by 10.9%
- Sports and entertainment by 9.3%
Transportation costs have risen as well:
- Train tickets by 18.6%
- City buses by 10.5%
- Airfare by 7.2%
Additionally, rental housing prices have increased by 15.3%.
Among goods, the highest price increases were recorded in:
- Audio and video equipment by 41.5%
- Jewelry and watches by 24.9%
- Automobiles by 22.9%
- Clothing and footwear by 10.6%
- Pharmaceutical products by 8.6%
Food prices have changed as follows:
- Potatoes increased by 59.3%
- Onions by 25.1%
- Mineral water by 16.7%
- Tobacco by 14.6%
- Confectionery products by 13.3%
- Butter by 13%
- Canned fish by 11.9%
- Fruit juices by 11%
In the regional breakdown for January 2025, the inflation rate exceeded the national average in 12 regions, with the highest recorded in Astana (11.2%), followed by the Karaganda region (9.9%), the West Kazakhstan region (9.7%), and the North Kazakhstan region (9.6%).
Earlier, at the extended government meeting, the National Bank was called on to curb inflation amid tenge volatility.
