Tengrinews.kz - Kassym-Jomart Tokayev visited the headquarters of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Astana, citing Akorda.
Greeting the participants of the event, the President of Kazakhstan congratulated the country’s diplomats and diplomatic service veterans on their professional holiday.
“Our ancestors have long been guided by the principles of ‘steppe diplomacy’. Thanks to the Kazakh people’s ability to conduct open and friendly dialogue, a unique model of peaceful coexistence took shape in the Great Steppe. Respect and mutual understanding have always been the main value-based guidelines. These principles have remained a solid foundation and a constant guiding principle of Kazakhstan’s foreign policy for centuries,” he said.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized that the opening of the CICA headquarters in the capital of Kazakhstan was truly a landmark and historic event.
“More than three decades ago, Kazakhstan initiated the creation of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia. This noble initiative received broad support from the international community as a timely step forward to consolidate efforts to strengthen stability and security in our region. We have always believed that only through developing cooperation, mutual understanding, and dialogue can we achieve lasting peace, stability, and prosperity. Under current conditions, CICA’s principle of building trust is more relevant than ever. Covering almost 90 percent of Asia and representing more than half of the world’s population, CICA is an important element of the emerging architecture of international relations,” the President of Kazakhstan said.
The President stressed that growing geopolitical tensions and the weakening of multilateral principles pose challenges to both regional and global stability.

“The world is facing extremely complex and unprecedented processes that require serious reflection and deep understanding. In fact, there is a gradual erosion of the very foundations of international law — force is being placed above the principles of the law. In such a reality, it is crucial that all countries strictly adhere to the principles of international law and the UN Charter, without resorting to biased interpretations of its norms,” Tokayev stated.
According to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Kazakhstan is committed to the consistent implementation of large-scale political and economic reforms.
“As President, I am convinced that the principle of ‘Law and Order’ must be inviolable in our country. Thanks to the reforms undertaken, the law on peaceful assemblies has been improved, the threshold for registering political parties has been lowered, defamation has been decriminalized, and the death penalty has been abolished. These measures clearly demonstrate our firm commitment to the values of democracy and the rule of law,” he added.
