Tengrinews.kz – A plan is underway to connect Astana and the Burabay resort with an air route. This was announced at a briefing by the Akmola Region akim, Marat Akhmetzhanov.
He emphasized that the Shchuchinsk–Burabay resort area occupies a special place on the region’s tourism map. In March, a development plan until 2029 was approved, “with a focus on modernizing tourist, transport, and engineering infrastructure.”
The akim also said they want to offer tourists “something more than just relaxing by the lake.” For this reason, helicopter tours were launched in Burabay this year.
In addition, there are plans to build a small airfield and launch a direct flight to Astana.
“A project is being developed — the opening of a small airfield for direct air service with Astana. This will significantly reduce travel time,” Akhmetzhanov said.
During the briefing, journalists also asked the akim when vacations in Burabay would become more affordable for Kazakhstanis. The regional head noted that “the issue is relevant and remains on the agenda.”
Meanwhile, in June 2024 it was reported that it was possible to travel from Astana to the Burabay resort by electric train in 2.5 hours. For this, the route of electric train No. 7553/7556 (Karaganda – Astana) was extended to Burabay. From Karaganda to Astana, the train runs under No. 7553/7556, and from Astana to Burabay it continues under No. 6811/6812.
