Tengrinews.kz — Aitbek Amangeldy has commented on the release of Bakhytzhan Baizhanov, who was freed on July 22. He shared his position via Instagram stories.
Amangeldy stated that his lawyers reviewed the matter and concluded that it is impossible to influence the situation. He also noted that, according to established procedure, the case was considered without the involvement of the victim's side.
At the same time, Amangeldy emphasized that being released does not equate to being found innocent.
"Amnesty is not the same as innocence. Amnesty does not overturn a verdict, it does not declare a person innocent, and it does not revoke the guilt established by the court. Baizhanov remains a criminal under six years of probationary control," he wrote.
Later, Amangeldy recorded a video message stating that his family and lawyers had discussed the situation and concluded there are no legal mechanisms to change it.
"We cannot influence this situation in any way. We won the cassation appeal. His goal at cassation was to prove and be declared innocent. That did not happen. He still has a criminal record. He is a criminal," Amangeldy said.
He added that while he personally finds the development difficult to accept, the "matter is closed" for the time being.
As a reminder, Bakhytzhan Baizhanov was released on July 22 based on a court order applying the amnesty law. The court granted the facility administration’s petition, reduced the unserved portion of the sentence, and ordered the immediate release of the convict. Following his release, Baizhanov was placed under administrative supervision for a period of six years.
Bakhytzhan Baizhanov was found guilty of concealing a crime in the murder case of Saltanat Nukenova. In May 2024, the court sentenced him to four years in prison. Subsequently, the appellate court upheld the verdict unchanged, and the amnesty law was later applied to him.
