Tengrinews.kz – Rosatom has begun design and survey work at the site of the future nuclear power plant in the village of Ulken, Zhambyl District, Almaty Region, according to Almassadam Satkaliyev, Chairman of the Atomic Energy Agency.
Satkaliyev stated that more than 70 boreholes of varying depths - from 30 to 150 meters -have already been drilled, and soil samples taken from them have been sent for analysis.
Preliminary seismic and cartographic studies have also been conducted. All collected data will be included in the project’s feasibility study.
“Detailed engineering and project documentation, over about 18 months from the start of work, must be accompanied by preliminary research in accordance with IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) standards. The final coordinates for the plant’s location will be determined. Issues related to the main engineering infrastructure, construction of the workers’ settlement, as well as Kazakhstani content criteria - meaning the share of equipment produced in Kazakhstan - will be directly included in the project documentation,” Satkaliyev explained in the corridors of Akorda.
He added that the exact coordinates of the future power plant have not yet been determined - they will be established based on the results of the engineering surveys.
