Kazakhstan residents spent $1.5 billion on the Internet in 2012, Tengrinews.kz reports. “Kazakhstan residents made online purchases worth almost $1.5 billion in 2012, but only $60 million fell on the local Internet market. The remaining amounts went abroad. 9 out of 10 of online transactions were made via foreign websites. The Ministry of Transport and Communications (of Kazakhstan) boasts having various Internet resources, but why doesn't it pay attention to this?” Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev said during the meeting of the President’s Businessmen Council. The President noted that the drawbacks resulted from inefficient development of local Internet resources and lack of the law regulating electronic commerce. Considering that, the Ministry of Transport and Communications was instructed to develop the required draft laws and present an action plan for development of Internet trade by the end of 2013.
