Tengrinews.kz - This delicacy has become a real hit in the last few months. Dubai chocolate is praised by bloggers and celebrities, assuring that they have never tried anything tastier. But doctors warn that the sweetness is extremely dangerous for both the figure and health in general. What it consists of and how it affects health, "Doctor Piter" figured out with experts.
The popular chocolate is prepared by hand. Its typical composition includes Belgian milk chocolate, pistachio or sesame paste, and kataifi dough. The latter product was originally used in the East, the dough looks like thin white threads tangled together. The composition includes the usual ingredients: water, salt, flour and eggs.
Sweet paste plus sweet chocolate, and even dough - sounds like a real carbohydrate bomb. And such a product can really do harm, says toxicologist Mikhail Kutushov.
In addition to pistachio paste and kataifi dough, chocolate often contains exotic fruits, nuts, spices, dairy products, as well as dyes and preservatives. All this makes the dessert very high in calories, and some ingredients can provoke an allergy.
"Unfortunately, there was already a case when a girl felt an itch in her mouth almost after the first bite of the trendy dessert. After that, she began to have a wild attack of suffocation, coughing and itching all over her body. Then her eyes swelled, and then she began to lose consciousness altogether. It is difficult to say which ingredient provoked Quincke's edema, but this case clearly illustrates the danger of uncontrolled consumption of chocolate with an unknown composition," the doctor noted.
Even if the unusual sweetness does not provoke unwanted allergic reactions, a person can easily develop problems with the gastrointestinal tract.
Dubai chocolate is high in calories and fat, which can cause diarrhea, heartburn, and bloating. In addition, if you get hooked on such sweets, then you definitely can't avoid weight problems. The risk of obesity increases and the high concentration of sugar in chocolate also aggravates health problems in people with diabetes.
The kataifi dough from which the delicacy is made is fried in a large amount of oil. This only adds calories, the expert explained.
In addition, manufacturers often hide what ingredients they use. That is, the dough, chocolate, and paste can be of low quality. Also, do not forget about dyes and preservatives.
In addition to problems with the gastrointestinal tract and anaphylactic shock, such an amount of carbohydrates and sugar can provoke a breakdown of the pancreas, an exacerbation of problems with the gallbladder, and this is cholecystitis, which is especially dangerous for those who have gallstones.
"There is more and more news about people who are not used to nuts and seeds calling an ambulance with severe swelling and difficulty breathing because they did not know that they could have an allergy," said physician Natalia Zubareva.
If a person decides to try this type of chocolate, then it is necessary to pay attention to the following points, Kutushov clarified. First, you need to check the dessert for possible allergens in its composition. Second, if symptoms such as itching, burning, shortness of breath, or other unpleasant sensations appear, you should immediately consult a doctor to find out the cause and receive appropriate treatment.
Zubareva, in turn, advises people to prepare the dessert themselves if they really like it. So you can choose good kataifi dough, do not add too much pistachio paste, and replace milk chocolate with dark chocolate at least partially. All this will reduce the calorie content of the dish and thereby protect lovers of sweets from possible dangerous consequences.
