Tengrinews.kz - Regular consumption of black tea may contribute to a longer life, according to oncologist Leonid Doronin.
While green tea has long been celebrated for its health benefits and extensively studied, black tea has received less attention, leading to mixed research findings, Doronin explained. One challenge is that major studies often focus on countries like Japan or China, where green tea dominates.
For this reason, researchers turned their focus to the UK, where drinking black tea is a common practice.
"Researchers surveyed approximately 500,000 people and followed them for an average of 11 years. The results were striking," Doronin noted.
The study found that drinking black tea was associated with a lower risk of mortality among those who consumed two or more cups daily compared to non-drinkers. Even those who added milk or sugar experienced the same benefits, and the results remained consistent regardless of tea temperature.
Additionally, tea drinkers showed a reduced risk of death from cardiovascular diseases, coronary heart disease, and stroke compared to those who did not drink tea.
"Although it’s difficult to pinpoint exactly why tea provides these benefits, the findings aren’t surprising. Black tea is rich in bioactive compounds, including well-known polyphenols and flavonoids, which reduce stress and inflammation throughout the body," the expert explained.
However, Doronin cautioned against excessive consumption of black tea. He cited a case of a woman who drank so much tea that her bones became unusually fragile.
Based on the study results, two cups of tea per day are sufficient, the oncologist added.
Previously, another doctor recommended a drink to prevent cancer and insomnia.
