Tengrinews.kz – There are more questions about influencers who show off their luxurious lifestyle on social networks in Kazakhstan. The corresponding request was voiced today by deputy Erlan Sairov.
The Mazhilisman addressed his deputy request to Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin. Sairov stated that illegal actions by online lottery organizers, so-called coach-influencers, have recently become more frequent on social networks.
"They sell tickets and receipts, conduct illegal lottery games under the guise of selling travel packages, equipment, jewelry, luxury real estate and cars. Such giveaways, as they are commonly called, that is, dubious promotions, are illegal," the deputy's request says.
Sairov presented statistics according to which 106 cases of illegal organization of lotteries and drawing of valuable prizes have been identified in the last year.
The offenders were fined in excess of 46 million tenge. However, illegal lottery activity on social networks remains at a high level.
"In Kazakhstan, a layer of new opinion leaders has emerged, called influencers, coaches, whose social networks are filled with videos with paid courses, advertising of goods, services, shops, cafes. Some of them constantly demonstrate a luxurious lifestyle on social networks, publish photos of expensive villas, supercars and other attributes of wealth. They instill in society the idea that you can earn money without effort, in an easy way. At the same time, the Ministry of Finance has legitimate questions about the payment of appropriate taxes by these citizens.
Everyone must pay taxes. The principle ‘the law is harsh, but it is the law’ applies to all citizens! In the USA, England and China, content authors are required to pay taxes on income received from their activities. Tax rates in these countries are progressive and can reach 40 percent. This axiom also applies to tax culture in general," the Mazhilis member said.
In this regard, the deputy considers it necessary to organize extensive explanatory work among bloggers on the issue of the need to comply with Kazakhstani legislation, develop clear criteria for classifying influencers' income as entrepreneurial activity, and also strengthen control over the prevention of prize draws on social networks.
Recently, Kazakhstani bloggers received tax notices en masse about billions of tenge in arrears. According to the State Revenue Committee, 594 people understated their income by a total of 53.3 billion tenge. The notices were received by bloggers who have more than 20 thousand subscribers.
By the way, a list of bloggers’ earnings appeared on the Internet, which was compared to the Squid Game.
