Tengrinews.kz – A rare Tien Shan brown bear, listed in Kazakhstan’s Red Book of endangered species, was recently caught on a camera trap in the Kolsai Lakes National Park.
The elusive predator was recorded as part of a wildlife monitoring program. Park officials noted that this isn’t the first time the bear has been captured on camera, underscoring the animal’s continued presence in the region.

“This rare footage confirms that brown bears are still inhabiting the national park, reflecting the stability of the local ecosystem,” the park administration stated.
The Tien Shan brown bear is a relatively small subspecies of the brown bear, typically measuring between 1.5 and 2.2 meters in length and weighing 135 to 200 kilograms, though larger individuals have been documented. It is distinguished by its long, pale claws on the front paws.
An omnivore, the bear feeds on grasses, roots, bulbs, berries, and fruits, and occasionally preys on marmots and pikas. It is also known to scavenge when necessary.
