SCAT's Bombardier business jet crashed near Almaty killing 21, including 1 foreigner

A SCAT-owned Bombardier with 20 people onboard crashed on the approach to Almaty airport near Kyzyltu village 7km from the runway strip at 01:30 p.m. All the passengers and crew members were killed in the accident. There were 5 crew members and 16 passengers on the flight. Among the 16 passengers there was a two-year-old kid - Bakhytzhan R. born on August 11, 2011. He was traveling with his mother Indira Rakhymbek, according to preliminary information. There was also one foreigner on board according to the preliminary data: Akram Nisamov from Azerbaijan. “The plane was used starting from September 2012. It was bought from an Austrian airline. All maintenance works were performed on time. Vladimir Yevdokimov was the pilot in command of the plane. Sharapov was the second pilot. The company is now dealing with organization of funeral and transportation of bodies,” President of SCAT airline Vladimir Denissov said. According to KTK channel, the flight was a commercial one and was carrying a group of businessmen onboard. Here is the list of people who were onboard of the crashed plane: 1. Galymzhan Duissenov 2. The airplane took off from Kokshetau airport at 11:20 a.m. Astana time with 1-hour delay because of complicated weather conditions in Almaty (fog). The plane hit the ground during the second approach to the airport while attempting to land in bad weather conditions and poor visibility. The official reason of the crash will be published after decoding of the board recorders is made. The CRJ 200LR plane (board number UP-CJ006, manufacturing number 7413) was manufactured in 2000. Its flying hours since the beginning of its exploitation made 25,707 hours. It made 22,975 landings. It was last repaired on June 26, 2011. Its certificate of airworthiness expires on 20.09.2013. A government commission for investigation of reasons of the plane crash near Almaty airport has been formed by Prime-Minister Serik Akhmetov’s decree. The commission is led by first deputy Prime-Minister and Minister of Regional Development Bakytzhan Sagintayev. It also includes Minister of Emergency Situations Vladimir Bozhko, Minister of Transport and Communications Askar Zhumagaliyev, representatives of the General Prosecutor’s office, Senior Transport Prosecutor’s office and other state authorities. The commission has already started investigating the crash reasons. According to Tengrinews.kz journalist at the crash site, the accident site is cordoned and over a dozen of fire-fighting vehicles have arrived. Police is not letting anyone close to the site. Deep fog is complicating the rescue works. The plane was not on fire. There is no smell of jet fuel in the air either. According to comments of Tengrinews.kz readers, “most of the foreign companies working in Kazakhstan have lists of safe air carriers. Scat is not on those lists!”
