The European Commission will help freezing Kazakhstan residents, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the press-service of the EU Representative Office in Kazakhstan. “Starting from December 18 North Kazakhstan was experiencing severe cold with heavy snow, with the temperature between 40 and 46 degrees Centigrade. This caused blackouts and disruptions in hot water supply. 5 thousand people, including homeless people, street children, single mothers and single seniors, i.e. the most vulnerable groups of citizens, suffered the most. The European Commission has allocated 55,800 Euro to render aide to 2,000 victims among the most vulnerable ones,” the press-service writes. This money will be used for distribution of food, warm clothes, blankets and shoes in the period until end of February to help the people survive through the coldest months of this year. “The aide will be rendered via Kazakhstan’s Crescent Society financed from the Disaster Relief Emergency Fund (DREF) of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC),” the message states.
