Crates of home-made inflammable liquid found in Zhanaozen residential buildings
Molotov Cocktails were found at the attic floors and in the cellars of Zhanaozen residential buildings, Tengrinews.kz reports citing official representative of Kazakhstan General Prosecution office Nurdaulet Suindikov.
Suindikov said that the residential buildings are checked for weapons, armament, explosives and stolen property.
“Over 90 buildings were checked, cans with flammable liquid were found in some of them. This is the mixture of petrol with diesel fuel, known as Molotov Cocktail.” He also noted that stolen property was also found in some of these buildings. These are mainly furniture and office appliances.
According to official representative, 38 people were brought to liability, 10 people were apprehended in suspicion of crimes in the period from December 16 to 20. 8 of them were arrested on Clashes and Pillage charges.
December 20 Kazakhstan Interior Minister Kalmukhanbet Kassymov told Prime-Minister Karim Massimov about the situation in Mangistau oblast. 110 people were injured in clashes in Zhanaozen and Shetpe. He confirmed that 15 people died: 14 in Zhanaozen and 1 in Shetpe. The injured include 17 police officers in Zhanaozen and 8 in Shetpe. They are currently in hospitals. 8 people were arrested and another 19 were apprehended. 41 people were brought to administrative liability.
Clashes in Zhanaozen happened during celebration of the Independence Day on December 16. The next day a large group of people blocked the railroad in Shetpe village of Mangistau oblast and set flames to a locomotive to support Zhanaozen riots. 1 person died and 10 were injured in Shetpe.
