Astana policemen have began learning English in the run-up to EXPO 2017, Tengrinews reports citing the city's Internal Affairs Department.
The English classes are called to improve English language skills of the police officers. The classes are held three times a week in the Astana Department of Internal Affairs. The course started in July 2014 and will last for 4 more months. After that a new group of police officers will begin their studies.
After competing the course, the police officers will have to take an exam to confirm their skills. The police officers who pass the test successfully will receive completion certificates.
"A great responsibility lies on the metropolitan police in terms of ensuring security of city's guests, residents and EXPO venues as well as maintaining public order during the exhibition. English language will enable police officers to effectively respond to foreigners' requests and will improve the image of the city's police," the department said.
Improvement of the English language proficiency of emergency, law enforcement and healthcare services personnel is part of the preparations for hosting the EXPO in Astana in 2017.
