Tengrinews.kz - The world’s wealthiest individuals lost more than $200 billion following U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to impose new tariffs on imported goods from 185 countries, according to Bloomberg Billionaires Index (BBI).
On April 3, the combined wealth of the 500 richest people in the world decreased by $208 billion.
Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Meta, saw his fortune (now valued at $189 billion) take a massive hit, dropping by $17.9 billion—about 9 percent of his total capital. This came as Meta’s stock plummeted by 8.96 percent.
A similar situation unfolded for Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, whose wealth now stands at $201 billion. He lost $15.9 billion as Amazon’s stock plunged by approximately 9 percent, marking its steepest decline since April 2022.
Elon Musk, whose current net worth is $322 billion, was also affected. Tesla’s stock fell by 5.47 percent, costing him $11 billion.
In March, reports indicated that during the first seven weeks of Trump’s second term, the world’s richest individuals had already lost a total of $209 billion.
Previously, President Trump announced increased tariffs on imported goods from 185 countries.
Kazakhstan was among the nations affected by the new tariffs, with a rate of 27 percent imposed on its exports to the U.S. In response, Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Trade issued a statement, and experts weighed in on the situation.
