Highly radioactive water leaking from Japan reactor building

28 march 2011, 15:22
Highly radioactive water has seeped out from a reactor turbine building at a stricken nuclear plant in Japan, the operator said Monday, adding to fears the liquid is leaking into the environment, AFP reports.

The water, found in a trench linked to the number two reactor at the Fukushima Daiichi plant, was found to have a radiation level of more than 1,000 millisieverts per hour, a Tokyo Electric Power official told a news conference.

"We need to check if the water could flow directly into the sea," he said.
