Tengrinews.kz – A Kazakhstani citizen wanted for fraud and failure to comply with a court decision has been extradited from Saudi Arabia, according to the General Prosecutor’s Office.
Extradition operation
The operation to return the suspect was carried out by the General Prosecutor’s Office in cooperation with the Interpol division of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, with support from the Embassy of Kazakhstan in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Charges and case details
According to the investigation, from 2018 to 2023 the man, through deception and abuse of trust, stole money and property from victims in Almaty amounting to 19 million tenge.
In addition, he failed to fulfill obligations to a commercial company by not delivering prepaid goods worth 82 million tenge.
Search and extradition
After the start of the pre-trial investigation, the suspect fled and was placed on an international wanted list. This year, he was detained in Saudi Arabia and, at the request of the General Prosecutor’s Office, was extradited to Kazakhstan.
He is currently being held in a pre-trial detention center.
Punishment and international cooperation
The crimes he is charged with carry a penalty of 5 to 10 years of imprisonment, possibly with confiscation of property.
It’s worth noting that earlier Armenia extradited a dangerous repeat offender to Kazakhstan, who was suspected of attempted murder. According to the investigation, in September 2024, the previously convicted Kazakhstani citizen, while intoxicated, attacked a man in Petropavlovsk, inflicting multiple stab wounds to vital organs out of hooligan motives. The victim survived thanks to emergency medical assistance.
