A labor conflict in the gold-mining company in Akmola oblast may escalate, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Kazakhstan Secretary of State Mukhtar Kul-Mukhammed as saying at the extended meeting in Kazakhstan Ministry of Labor and Social Protection. Mukhtar Kul-Mukhammed passed Kazakhstan Minister of Labor and Social Protection the information on the labor conflicts in Kazakhstan companies. The numbers of the Secretary-of-State are significantly different from the ones of the Ministry. “According to the General Prosecutor’s office, over 23 labor conflicts and disputes took place this June only. There are serious grounds for escalation of the labor conflict in the gold-mining company Altynai-Kokshetau in Akmola oblast. Over 900 employees of Shantobe mine in Akmola oblast are not satisfied with their payment conditions. The situation in ArcelorMittal-Temirtau is not a simple one in Karaganda oblast where the employees periodically organize strikes. Despite of the fact that the actions of these employees are organized and there is even a strike commission, the conflict has still not been resolved,” he said after the speech of the Minister of Labor and Social Protection who told about 13 labor conflicts since the beginning of the year . “The number of labor conflicts and disputes keeps rising and there is no communication between employees and employers; regional departments of labor and social protection not always work with the companies’ managements and employees. Every social inspector has to know about the labor conflicts. If sometimes they don’t have enough power or juridiction, they have to pass the information to law-enforcement authorities so that the conflicts are resolved legally,” Secretary of State said and added that he had the information about labor conflicts in all the regions of Kazakhstan. He passed this information to Kazakhstan Minister of Labor and Social Protection.
