Kazakhstani film director Nariman Torebayev is presenting his “free interpretation” of Dostoevsky’s White Nights under the title Prikluchenie (Adventure) at the Vesoul international film festival of Asian Cinema’s (FICA) in France, Tengrinews reports.

The 21st edition of the film festival gathered nine films from China, South Korea, Australia, India, Iran, Philipines, Taiwan, Kyrgyzstan and Myanmar in the Contemporary Asian Cinema: International Competition category.
Dostoyevsky’s classic was loosely adapted as a story of a lonely Marat who works as a security guard and leads an unremarkable boring life until he meets Her, Maryam.
“Dostoyevsky is a very modern author; in fact his style can be suited to all times and places… And there are no boundaries when you write about love. This is my first experience of adapting a literary work for cinema. I might do it again. I liked it very much,” the FICA cited Turebayev.
Marat was brought to life on the screen by a winner of the 8th Eurasia International Film Festival Azamat Nigmanov. A theatre actress Ainur Niyazova played Maryam’s part.
The Priklyuchenie film was filmed on the Kazakhfilm studio and produced by a French Arizona Films.
Earlier, the Kazakhstani film was presented at the 49th Karlovy Vary Film Festival in the Czech Republic.
