Tengrinews.kz – The world-famous French museum, the Louvre, was robbed in Paris. The incident occurred on the morning of October 19, with no injuries reported, according to euronews.
According to BFMTV, the robbers arrived at the scene on scooters. Using an external freight elevator, they reached the windows and broke them. After entering the museum, the thieves stole jewelry from the collections of Napoleon and Empress Joséphine, then fled the scene.
Le Parisien clarified that nine pieces of jewelry were stolen in total, two of which — including the Empress’s crown — were later recovered. It was emphasized that the museum’s most famous diamonds, the Regent (weighing over 140 carats) and the Sancy, were not stolen.
France’s Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez stated that the stolen items are part of the country’s “invaluable cultural heritage.” He added that the robbery lasted seven minutes and was carried out by a highly experienced criminal group that had conducted prior surveillance and acted with exceptional precision.
The Louvre administration announced that the museum would remain closed for the entire day “for exceptional reasons.” French far-right leader Jordan Bardella called the incident an “intolerable humiliation.”
“The Louvre is a global symbol of our culture. This robbery, which allowed thieves to steal the jewels of the French crown, is an unbearable humiliation for our country. How far will the decay of the state go?” Bardella wrote on social network X.
