Tengrinews.kz – A second earthquake in two days struck western Turkey. Video footage circulating online shows people panic-running out of homes, hiding under tables, and filming household items swaying.
What happened
On Sunday evening, strong tremors with a magnitude of 6.1 were recorded in the Marmara Sea region.
Residents of Istanbul also felt the quake. For 20–30 seconds, objects in apartments were swaying. However, special mobile applications managed to alert people a few seconds before the quake began.
According to Yahoo News, no fatalities have been reported. The governor of Balikesir, Ismail Ustaoglu, confirmed that 22 people were injured in the ensuing panic.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated that three buildings collapsed, but they were empty and had already been damaged during previous earthquakes.
Earthquake videos in Turkey
Photos of the debris have appeared on social media platform X, reportedly showing the same buildings that collapsed during the quake.
Footage from security cameras captured the moments of the earthquake: items on store shelves swinging, and café visitors sitting on outdoor terraces screaming in fear and running away from buildings.
A local streamer was caught live on camera when the earthquake began. Feeling the tremors, the girl reacted instantly and hid under a table.
In another video, a Turkish resident filmed a swinging chandelier inside his apartment.
Some residents were too afraid to return home, fearing aftershocks, and spent several hours outside.
