On Sunday evening, strong tremors with a magnitude of 6.1 were recorded in the Marmara Sea region.
Residents of Istanbul also felt the quake. For 20–30 seconds, objects in apartments were swaying. However, special mobile applications managed to alert people a few seconds before the quake began.
According to Yahoo News, no fatalities have been reported. The governor of Balikesir, Ismail Ustaoglu, confirmed that 22 people were injured in the ensuing panic.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated that three buildings collapsed, but they were empty and had already been damaged during previous earthquakes.
