Tengrinews.kz – French President Emmanuel Macron called the Louvre robbery “an attack on the country’s heritage and history,” citing Euronews.
In a post on his social media page X, the French leader assured that all the stolen relics would be returned to the museum and that those responsible would definitely be brought to justice. Macron emphasized that “every possible effort” was being made to find the criminals and the stolen items.
Former French President Francois Hollande, speaking on a local TV channel, condemned the incident as a “serious act, an assault on French heritage,” noting that several museums across the country had recently been robbed. Hollande said he did not rule out the possibility of “foreign interference aimed at destabilizing the country.”
On the morning of Sunday, October 19, thieves stole nine items from the French crown jewels collection in just a few minutes from the famous Paris museum.
According to the Paris prosecutor’s office, authorities are searching for four suspects who broke into the Apollo Gallery. The masked robbers used a truck-mounted construction basket to reach the upper floor. After breaking a window, they entered the hall and used a power saw to open the cases. They managed to steal nine pieces of jewelry that, according to officials, are of inestimable historical and cultural value.
The criminals escaped on scooters, apparently dropping one of the stolen items, which was later found damaged near the Louvre — the crown of Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoleon III. The robbery, already described as one of the boldest in the history of the world-famous museum, lasted only seven minutes.
Among the stolen treasures were the sapphire necklace of Queen Marie Amalie and Queen Hortense, consisting of eight sapphires and 631 diamonds, as well as Empress Eugenie’s tiara, containing nearly 2,000 diamonds, two brooches, and a corsage bow.
The new Interior Minister Laurent Nunez believes the theft was carried out by experienced robbers who may have been foreign nationals. He also expressed confidence that all four suspects would be caught very soon.
