Tengrinews.kz – The damage from the robbery of the Louvre Museum in Paris is estimated at €88 million, citing RIA Novosti.

According to the agency, this was reported by Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau on RTL Radio.

“The director of the Louvre estimated the damage at €88 million,” she said.

Beccuau emphasized that this amount cannot be compared to the historical damage inflicted on the museum. She noted that the thieves would not be able to profit if they attempted to melt down or break up the jewels into smaller pieces. Therefore, she expressed hope that the perpetrators would reconsider and not destroy the valuables.

The robbery became known last Sunday. According to the prosecutor’s office, it was carried out in just four minutes by a group of four people, two of whom directly entered the museum.

In total, nine pieces of royal and imperial jewelry were stolen, one of which was later found and returned to the museum. Media sources reported that the largest diamond in the collection — the Regent, weighing over 140 carats — was not stolen.

France’s Interior Minister Laurent Nunez stated that the robbers entered the Louvre through a window using a ladder mounted on a truck lift and cut through the glass with a power saw. He did not rule out that the perpetrators could be foreign nationals.

The thieves later fled the scene on scooters. No one was injured during the incident.

A former Paris police prefect believes the robbers had studied the site in advance. The prosecutor’s office has opened a criminal investigation.

Meanwhile, Telegram founder Pavel Durov linked the Louvre robbery in Paris to the “decline of a once-great France” and expressed willingness to buy back the stolen jewels.
