Tengrinews.kz – On Monday, May 12, a family home belonging to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer caught fire in north London. Local law enforcement does not rule out arson, suspecting the incident may be an "act of terrorism," according to ABC News.
According to the London Fire Brigade, the alert about a “small fire” came in around 1 a.m. Two fire engines responded to the scene, and the fire was extinguished within 30 minutes. No injuries were reported.
It is noted that Starmer had moved into the official residence on Downing Street after taking office, while his family home was being rented out.
Authorities found the cause of the fire suspicious, prompting the involvement of London’s counterterrorism police unit in the investigation.
Prime Minister’s spokesperson Dave Pares thanked emergency services on Starmer’s behalf and stated that, due to the ongoing investigation, they would refrain from commenting further.
It is also reported that the house had previously been the target of protests. Last year, three pro-Palestinian activists hung a banner with red handprints on the building’s facade. The men were arrested for disturbing public order.
