Tengrinews.kz — Almost everyone on Earth will be able to see the asteroid Apophis with the naked eye during its closest approach to our planet in 2029, citing Space.com.

According to the outlet, astronomers are continuing to refine the parameters of the celestial body’s trajectory. Based on the latest calculations, on April 13, 2029, Apophis will be visible to about 7.6 billion people, or around 90 percent of the world’s population.

In the night sky, the asteroid will look like a bright glowing point. It will cross a section of the sky comparable in size to the diameter of the full Moon’s disk in about one minute.

However, the opportunity to observe this rare cosmic event will also depend on conditions on Earth. Scientists note that cloud cover and light pollution in major cities could obstruct the view.

Apophis is considered one of the most well-known potentially hazardous asteroids. Its diameter is about 375 meters, comparable to the height of a 40-story building.

During its approach in 2029, the asteroid will pass about 32,000 kilometers from Earth. This is closer than the orbits of geostationary satellites, which are located at an altitude of about 35,800 kilometers.
