Tengrinews.kz - Two powerful explosions, spaced about 20 seconds apart, went off in front of Brazil's Supreme Court building in the capital on Wednesday evening.
According to the news portal G1, the area was cordoned off following the blasts, with firefighters and military specialists in explosives arriving at the scene.
One man was reported dead as a result of the incident.
Witnesses stated that after a series of bangs, a car exploded in the parking area between the Supreme Court and the National Congress’s Chamber of Deputies. Fireworks and bricks were found in the car’s trunk.
Eyewitnesses described the sound as "very loud" and said that "people started running."
Bomb disposal experts are currently checking for other potential explosive devices in the area, and court employees have been evacuated.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
A woman at a bus stop across from the Supreme Court building reported that she saw a man with a bag who signaled to her that everything was fine. She claims that shortly after, the first explosion occurred. When she looked back, she saw the man drop something near the statue of the goddess of justice, Themis, and then collapse.
A food truck owner operating in the parking area recounted seeing a car catch fire.
"They told me that a man parked, took things from the trunk, and walked away with a backpack on his back. And suddenly, we heard explosions. When we approached to look, there was very thick smoke," he described.
Earlier, a terrorist attack occurred in Turkey, resulting in fatalities and injuries.
