Tengrinews.kz - Bitcoin surged past $108,000, setting a new all-time high ahead of the inauguration of U.S. President Donald Trump, according to CoinMarketCap data.
The cryptocurrency peaked at $108,884, marking a 3.47% increase over the past 24 hours. As of 12:25 P.M. Astana time, Bitcoin was trading at $108,200.99. The previous record was set on December 17, 2024, when Bitcoin reached $108,069.22.
Analysts attribute the rally to market expectations that Trump’s administration may ease cryptocurrency regulations.
On January 18, Trump announced on Truth Social and X the launch of his own meme cryptocurrency. Within a day, his meme coin, also known as $TRUMP, skyrocketed to $70.
Shortly after, Melania Trump introduced her own meme cryptocurrency, $MELANIA, which surged 10,000% within an hour of its launch, reaching a market capitalization of $5 billion.
Trump’s inauguration is scheduled for 12:00 P.M. (ET) on January 20 (10:00 P.M. Astana time), where he will take the presidential oath in the Capitol Rotunda.
