Tengrinews.kz reports referring to Vassiliy Trotsko, head expert of Fishery Inspection Department of Pavlodar oblast.
“The piranha that weighed over two kilograms fell into the fishermen’s netting. The fish of prey was caught near the Mutkenov village of Pavlodar oblast,” Vassiliy Trotsko said. This fish lives in Latin America and this habitat (in Kazakhstan) is neither common nor suitable for it. Ichthyologists believe that the piranha was freed form a private aquarium and then it managed to adapt to the low water temperature. Apparently, the owners of the fish were bored with it and released it into the river. The fishermen were amused by its’ vitality. The fish was alive after it stayed without any water in a plastic bag for 16 hours while the fishermen were delivering it to the authorities.”
According to him, the fish of prey will be examined by the ichthyologists, who will define its’ exact species. Usually piranha's weighs does not exceed one kilogram.
