The Chess Olympiad kicked off in Norweigian Tromso on August 2. Kazakhstani chess players gave a good start at the Olympiad, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz

The women’s team won over Portugal with 2.5:2 points. Zhansaya Abdumalik won Sara Monteiro 1:0 and Gulmira Dauletova Rita won over Maria Jorge (1:0). Dinara Saduakasova had a tie with Maria Oliveira, and Guliskhan Nakhbayeva lost to Margarita Coimbra. In the following round, the Kazakh women’s team crushed Togo 4:0. In the 3rd round, the Kazakhstanis will face team India.

the men’s team had a blast in the first round and defeated Kuwait team with 4:0. In the second round, the Kazakhs faced Sweden. Pavel Kostur won Nils Grandelius and Petr Kostenko won Evgeny Agrest. Aslan Aitbayev also successfully finished his 2nd round against Hans Tikkanen. Rustam Khusnutdinov was not as successful as his teammates and had a draw with Pers Hillarp. In the 3rd round, the team is playing against Latvia.

The 41st World Chess Olimpiad gathered 177 men and 136 women’s teams from all around the world. All in all, over 2 thousand chess players came to Tromso to compete in the Olimpiad.
