Tengrinews.kz - Mazhilis Deputy Askhat Aimagambetov discussed plans to amend legislation regarding the funding of foreign athletes in sports.

According to the deputy, the legislative changes are driven by the need to prioritize funding for different sports.

"The bill on physical culture and sports includes provisions for determining priorities in funding. Currently, around 180 sports are funded, and the money is distributed across all areas. We plan to set priorities so that budget funds are directed towards the most important sports," Aimagambetov said in the corridors of the Mazhilis.

The second issue, according to the deputy, concerns foreign athletes.

"There is an amendment from our deputy: it involves not allocating any budget funds for attracting foreign athletes. The third issue concerns the naming of our football league, ensuring that the name is not that of a particular betting company or trademark," the deputy said.

Askhat Aimagambetov clarified that this refers specifically to foreign athletes funded by the budget. Private funding for foreign athletes is not planned to be restricted.

"Budget money should not be spent on attracting foreign athletes. This concerns foreign athletes for the national team," the deputy added.

Recall, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has criticized sports officials for mismanaging budgets without achieving results.
