Canada’s hockey-player Kevin Dallman has got a Kazakhstan citizenship and official permission from the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) to participate in the Olympic qualifying tournament that will be held in Riga, Vesti.kz reports. The Kazakhstan team departed for Vienna for training camp straight after Barys' match against Avangard on February 1. General Manager of the Kazakhstan team Shumi Babayev told about the selection of candidates to the national team. “We have considered a broad range of candidates. Unfortunately, not the choice available at present is not as wide as would like it to be. However, I hope that everything will change in the future when Kazakhstan Hockey championship gains a considerable momentum. Then local players will be preferred over legionnaires for their professional skills. As for the main squad, we have selected almost all the players for it. Maksim Semenov had confirmed his participation, but he picked up an injury and won’t be able to come. I have personally talked to Alexey Vassilchenko: he wanted to play in the team. However he is undergoing some medical tests in Chelyabinsk hospital and the question about his participation is still open,” Babayev is quoted by the official website of Kazakhstan Ice Hockey Federation as saying. According to the team’s manager, Maksim Spiridonov, Konstantin Rudenko and Aleksey Bondarev won’t be able to help Kazakhstan team qualify for the Sochi Olympics in Riga. “We haven’t received any official papers for them from the IIHF. But based on the initial assessment they are not eligible to play for our team. Kevin Dallman will play for Kazakhstan national team in Riga. He has recently got his Kazakhstan citizenship recently and an official permission from the IIHF to participate in our national team,” the general manager said. Kazakhstan national team will travel to Latvia on February 5 to continue training until the beginning of the qualifying tournament. Kazakhstan hockey team will complete for Sochi Olympics spots on February 7,8 and 10 in Riga. “I have personally put the squad together and I am responsible for the result. In my opinion, the best Kazakhstan hockey players have been included into the squad for the tournament,” Babayev said.
