The charity Marathon hits the streets of Almaty on April 26. The Almaty Marathon has observed a steady increase in the number of participants year after year. The first marathon gathered 2500 participants, a year later, 6000 runners participated in the marathon. This year, over 15 thousand people from 40 countries have registered for the marathon.

Traditionally, the funds raised during the marathon will be given for charity. Last year, the Almaty Marathon raised money to help equip the Children’s Oncological Department of the Pediatrics and Children Surgery Research Center. This year, educational orphanage #9 for children with speech disorders will be getting a new recreational ground thanks to the marathon participants.

According to the director of the Almaty Marathon organization Saltanat Kazybayeva, this year the organizers introduced some changes to the marathon. The number of age categories was increased along with the number of volunteers working at each section of the marathon. This year, participants will be able to leave their personal belongings in lockers.

The biggest charity event of this Spring opens at 7:00 am and ends at 2:00 pm. Seifullin Avenue between Abay and Al Farabi avenues will be closed for traffic for the duration of the marathon.

The registration for the 4th Almaty Marathon ended on April 19th.
