ArtbatFest-2012: Beginning of the World Contemporary Art Festival that kicked off on May 24 in Almaty confronted numerous rumors on the end of the world expected in December 2012, Tengrinews.kz reports. ArtbatFest will last until the end of June, 2012. Experts and artists from Georgia, Sweden, Italy, the UK, India, Kyrgyzstan and Russia have already taken part in the Festival. The event will travel to Astana in July, where it will take part in ASTANA International Action Films Festival and EXPO-2017. Mosaic works of prominent Italian artists Dusciana Bravura, Roberta Grasso, Nane Zavagno, Giulio Candussio and Marco De Luca were exhibited in the Republic Palace during the opening ceremony. Large-scale installation Alchemy attracted attention of the audience most of all. The work consists of thousands of masterpieces that have been created since the end of the 19th century reproduced on glass and made into a mosaic on industrial plastic pipes. The Festival is being held at several sites. Installation works of Kazakhstan and foreign artists are situated in Arbat (pedestrian part of Zhibek Zholy Street between Furmanov Street and Abylay Khan Avenue). Safety Magic, Nuclear Losь and other music bands performed at the square in front of the Republic Palace. More large-scale installations were placed at the Republic Square. Photo exhibition of Ekaterina Sisfontes from Stockholm (Sweden) opened in Zhibek Zholy subway station. Art bike ride started from Central Stadium and finished at Kazakh-British Technical University (KBTU), where an interactive exhibition of “artchairs” was held at the same time. The main Artchair contest’s criteria were to turn common chairs into objects of art. ARTGROUP5 team won the award for the most original chair. Andrey Lyublinskiy, Russian designer and artist give master-classes as part of the ArtbatFest program. The designer from Saint Petersburg has taken part in several author exhibitions and presented his Anonymous project in Almaty Tengri Umay art gallery. Four-meter Anonymous figure was painted on the front wall of the building at Bogenbay Batyr Street at the corner of Zheltoksan Street.
