Pavlodar citizens competed in intellectual games on the City Day, Tengrinews.kz reports. Over 100 citizens participated in the chess tournament. Anyone could play a game with international grandmasters and international-class masters both on the chess boards and on the giant chess field with man-tall figures. “This is an excellent idea to hold such tournaments. On the one hand, they make chess more popular and on the other hand it is an entertainment. Chess are becoming more and more popular in our region. We have around 1 thousand children who play chess, not even speaking of thousands of adults. In November our team will take part in the world championship in Slovenia. The team includes our three-time Kazakhstan’s champion, 12-y.o. Denis Makhne,” international class sport master Yevgeniy Yegorov said. Around 100 chess players from Pavlodar are registered in the international federation's rating. The number of participants in tournaments of different levels has grown significantly in recent years. “Our women’s team has recently come back from an international tournament in Istanbul. They were ranked 12th. I think this result it not bad,” Yegorov said. The City Day is celebrated in Pavlodar on September 18. The city turned 292 this year.
